One hospitalized after deputies rescue 4 when boat hit barrier near Kewaunee Lighthouse


KEWAUNEE, Wis. (WFRV) – Deputies in Kewaunee County helped to rescue four people after their boat had hit a protective stone barrier near the Kewaunee Harbor on July 4, sending one person to a local hospital.

According to the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were sent just north of the Kewaunee Lighthouse around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday after reports of a boat that had hit a barrier.

The driver of the boat, later identified as a 58-year-old man from Mansheim, Minnesota, had told authorities that four people were on the boat, two of which were injured.

First responders helped to transport the passengers to shore where they were then treated. One person was taken to a Green Bay hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This incident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin DNR. No additional information was provided.
