Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for parts of NEPA


EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The National Weather Service (NWS) announced on Independence Day a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of northeastern Pennsylvania.

On Thursday before 4:30 p.m., the NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties after a storm was spotted by officials near Beaumont Township.

What will the weather be like for tonight’s fireworks?

The NWS anticipates the following areas to be impacted by the storms.

  • Falls Township

  • Old Forge

  • Pittston

  • Taylor

  • Moosic

  • Exeter

  • Swoyersville

  • Duryea

  • West Pittston

The warning will be in effect until 5:15 p.m., according to the NWS.

If you are in the areas anticipated to be impacted, the NWS advises residents to move to an interior room on the lowest for of a building.
