New Mexico Public Defender’s Office hit with cybersecurity breach

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The Law Offices of the Public Offender in New Mexico had a cybersecurity breach on Wednesday. LOPD Spokesperson Maggie Shepard confirmed to KRQE News 13 that the security breach was a ransomware attack.

After 6 months of inspections, regulators suspect violations at 60% of oil and gas facilities in New Mexico’s Permian Basin

According to Shepard, it happened despite robust protections and protocols the office had in place. This is the first time the LOPD experienced a cybersecurity breach.
