One dead after being found unresponsive in remote area along Colorado River


GRAND COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — One person has died after officials received a call for “an unresponsive male with CPR in progress” on Wednesday, according to a press release from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

Just before 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said officers responded to Westwater Canyon “in a very remote area along the Colorado River.”

According to the press release, when officials arrived, the male was dead. Officials did not immediately provide information about his age or the circumstances that led to his death.

The name of the person who died is being withheld by the Grand County Sheriff’s Office to respect the family.

“At this time the Grand County Sheriff’s Office wishes to extend the utmost of care and concern for family members associated with this tragic event,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

The sheriff’s office said the State of Utah Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating the case to determine the exact cause of death.

According to the sheriff’s office, the location officers responded to is near Bowling Alley Rapid and the Room of Doom in the canyon.

There is no further information at this time.
