Car catches on fire outside of Mancino’s in Petoskey

PETOSKEY — A car caught fire outside of Mancino’s Monday night, Petoskey Lt. David Schultz confirmed to the Petoskey News-Review.

Schultz said a team was dispatched to Mancino’s of Petoskey, located at 109 W. Mitchell St., around 6:59 p.m. on Monday after receiving reports of a car on fire near the building.

When officers arrived, active fire was coming out of the rear of the car, a silver Nissan Rogue, which then spread to the front seats and the engine compartment.

“It got burning very quickly,” Schultz said.

The fire melted some of the siding on the building.

Officers were able to extinguish the fire after arriving on the scene.

After the fire, Schultz said, Conway Towing and Recovery helped remove the insured, locally-owned vehicle. It was not an electric vehicle.

As of Tuesday morning, the cause of the fire is still unknown. A state-licensed fire inspector was expected to do the investigation Tuesday.
