Man, 22, charged with rape of teenager in Great Falls

A man has been charged in Cascade County court for allegedly raping a teenage girl in a car in the mall parking lot in Great Falls.

Travis William Hofer, 22, was charged with a felony count of sexual intercourse without consent in Cascade County District Court.

The following is according to charging documents. The defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty.

On June 19, the Great Falls Police Department received a call from a nurse at a hospital in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, about a complaint from a 15-year-old girl. The girl had said a man she met through social media, who she knew as “Travis,” had raped her inside a car parked in the mall parking lot near 13th Street South in Great Falls around noon on May 26.

The girl, who is from Great Falls, was later interviewed by GFPD and confirmed the reported assault. She added that after the alleged incident, the man opened the glove box of his car, showed her a gun and told her that if she reported what had happened he would shoot her.

The girl had reportedly previously met Hofer on social media, where they arranged to meet in the mall parking lot, according to the Cascade County District Attorney’s Office.

GFPD interviewed Hofer, who reportedly admitted to knowing the girl did not want to have sex with him “based on her reaction,” according to charging documents.

Bond has been requested at $50,000 in the case. A felony conviction of sexual intercourse without consent in Montana if the victim is less than 16 and the offender is four or more years older carries a sentence of up to life in prison and no less than four years.
