1 killed, 3 injured in rollover crash Monday on I-40 in Oldham County

One person died and three others were injured in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Interstate 40 near the Texas-New Mexico line in Oldham County Monday afternoon, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported.

At about 3:39 p.m. Monday, a 2007 Hummer H3 was heading west on I-40 about 26 miles west of Adrian. The Hummer veered off of the roadway into the center median and rolled over, ejecting a passenger who was not wearing a seat belt. The Hummer came to a final rest on the inside shoulder of the eastbound lanes.

The ejected passenger, identified as Fabiola Ahumada-Castillo, 47, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene by Oldham County Justice of the Peace Kristi O’Malley.

Two other passengers, Elizabeth Acosta, 48, and Hugo Sanz, 55, and the driver of the vehicle, Adolfo Ramirez, 25, all of Albuquerque, were taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where they were stable, according to DPS. All three of the surviving occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, DPS said.

The posted speed limit was 75 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
