Ohio ranks as one of the top states for a road trip, says new study. Here’s why

Pack up the car—it’s time to hit the road and see some sights. But Ohioans don’t have that far to go, according to a new study.

The Buckeye State was named one of the best road trip destinations for summer, according to WalletHub.

Ohio landed at No. 6 in the nation on WalletHub’s ranking of the “most fun, scenic and wallet-friendly road trip destinations.” The state landed behind Florida but ahead of North Carolina in the rankings.

Ohio has the keys to a good road trip, according to WalletHub

The best states for road trips are the ones that make them affordable, WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe said in a statement, with the prices of gas, food and accommodations heavily impacted by inflation. Safe roads and plenty of interesting attractions to visit are other keys.

“The best states for summer road trips therefore are those that keep costs low while providing the best driving experience and most fun activities,” she said.

In its ranking, WalletHub compared all 50 states on 43 metrics, from the number of attractions to road conditions to gas and accommodation costs. Ohio was ranked No. 21 for costs, No. 24 for safety and No. 13 for activities.
