Cahokia Heights Police investigate teen shot, killed

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – The fatal shooting of a minor in a Cahokia Heights neighborhood has residents fearing for their own safety.

Saturday morning, around 5:15 a.m., shots rang out through the 1300 block of Williams St. It’s a sound neighbors say isn’t unfamiliar.

An anonymous Cahokia Heights resident told FOX 2, “You hear gunfire and I’m sitting here with my children playing and I mean, you almost don’t know what to do. It’s almost post-traumatic as well and I think that’s going to do a lot of damage to our children in the long run hearing those gun shots.”

Cahokia Heights Police Department were called to the scene regarding a homicide investigation. Upon arrival, they located 17-year-old Terrance D. Booker with multiple gunshot wounds in the yard of a home. Booker was pronounced dead at the scene, which was down the street from his own home.

“We just gotta stop this violence. It’s too many young people out here that can bring so much stuff to society, but their lives are being cut short because of senseless violence,” Frank Gully III, Terrance’s mentor, said.

Terrance was described as a good son, always taking care of his mother, who was paralyzed from the chest down in a tragic car accident just a few years ago, and recently graduated from Lincoln Challenge Academy.

The family believes he was lured outside by someone he trusted before being shot. They say he was a level-headed kid who was ready to work his way up to positively contribute to this world as a truck driver.

Police and family are asking if anyone knows of any information that could assist in solving the case to contact the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis at 618-332-4277 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
