Las Vegas community members plan 4th of July celebrations

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (KRQE) – Las Vegas city members are putting together their own 4th of July celebration after the city canceled their normal festivities. The city canceled their 4th of July fiestas after flooding caused a water crisis in the area leading to city-wide water conservation efforts.

Now, community members are having an event at the Tecolote Race Horse Training Facility starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday. They’re asking attendees to bring a dish, grills, and their own chairs to join in on the fun. “It’s just basically a community event not designed to replace the canceled fiestas. It’s just simply an alternative that won’t put any strain on city water or the city itself,” said Candace Baca, community member.

There will be live music and activities at the event. To sign up for the event, click here.
