El Paso woman lies about missing child

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso woman was arrested after she falsely reported that her child was missing on Sunday, June 30, according to El Paso Police.

Police say Stacie Dashay Marie Smith, 19, is facing a charge of false alarm or report after she provided a fake name of a child in order for police to locate her friend’s stolen car quicker.

Police say on Sunday afternoon, they received a call about a reported vehicle theft.

Smith then placed a second call to 911, stating that her child was missing and that she believed whoever had taken her friend’s vehicle had also taken the child, according to police.

Police say officers at the scene met with the person who initially reported the theft along with Smith and eventually ended up finding the vehicle. However, the child was still missing.

Crimes Against Persons then were called in to assist in the investigation which revealed that the child did not exist.

Smith was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $5,000 bond.
