Officer dies at hospital after turning gun on himself in southwest Charlotte: CMPD

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An officer has died in the hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday afternoon, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

“Preliminary information indicates one CMPD officer suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was transported to a local hospital, and succumbed to his injuries,” CMPD confirmed.

Officers with the Steele Creek Division responded to calls midday Monday, July 1, in the 7300 block of Steele Creek Road, just south of the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

CMPD said they are not looking for any suspects in this case and there is no danger to the public. The identity of the CMPD officer has not yet been released.
