Jamestown Fire Department responds to garbage container fire, natural gas leak


Jul. 1—JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Fire Department responded to a fire in a garbage container on Sunday, June 30, and a report of a natural gas leak on Monday, July 1, according to Lt. Sheldon Mohr.

Three units and 17 firefighters responded to 759 5th St. NE in Jamestown at about 5:40 p.m. Sunday. Mohr said a fire in a garbage container was out on arrival.

He said the occupant used a garden hose to extinguish the fire.

Mohr said the cause of the fire was hot embers getting dumped into the garbage container.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were on scene for about 10 minutes.

One unit and three firefighters responded to 221 4th St. NW at about 8:10 a.m. Monday to a report of a natural gas leak. Fourteen firefighters were on standby in case assistance was needed.

Mohr said firefighters waited until Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. secured the natural gas leak.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were on scene for about 50 minutes.
