1 person killed after hit-and-run collision on Mt. Vernon Avenue


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One person is dead after being hit by a vehicle Sunday in east Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.

On June 30, the California Highway Patrol and Kern County Sheriff’s Office were at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run incident near the intersection of Mt. Vernon Avenue and East California Avenue. At about 2:21 p.m., law enforcement received reports of a hit-and-run collision on Mt. Vernon Avenue.

After a preliminary investigation, CHP says one passenger in the car who got hit, attempted to stop the suspect vehicle involved in the hit-and-run as it fled the scene, and was later pronounced deceased at Kern Medical.
