Joplin prepares for major East Zora Street improvements

JOPLIN, Mo. — The City of Joplin is gearing up for some major improvements to East Zora Street.

The project will take place over three phases:

First, building a new concrete roundabout at the intersection of Zora and Duquesne Road,

Then, making improvements to Zora from Duquesne to Missouri-249,

Finally, improvements from Duquesne to Range Line.

It’s all part of the 10-year capital improvement sales tax program voters approved back in August of 2014.

The city also secured a four-million-dollar grant for the Zora project through a cost-share agreement with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission back in June of 2023.

Joplin City Council will vote at tomorrow’s meeting on whether to hire Emery Sapp and Sons, Inc. for the project.

Construction is expected to take around 120 days once work begins.
