Non-traditional schooling options in Shawnee County showcased at fair

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A homeschooling fair was held at the Topeka and Shawnee County Library on Sunday, June 30.

Hosted by “Learning Beyond Boundaries,” the fair informed families on homeschool and non-traditional schooling options in Shawnee County. It included 20 vendors of different non-traditional learning and after-school therapy groups from the county.

27 News spoke to members of the planning committee for “Beyond Boundaries Hub” on the importance of this fair for families.

“It’s like a journey, is like how we describe that. Better education is really a journey,” Andrea Aldrine with Beyond Boundaries said. “Like you can start with homeschooling, you can start with I don’t know virtual schooling and just kind of expand there. So, we kind of just spotlight on these organizations that are serving families here in Topeka and we wanted families to come see who they are and meet with them in person so they can connect with them.”

While traditional schooling is an option, Beyond Boundaries Hub says it’s important to know about all of the available options when it comes to schooling.
