LANSING, Kan. —The City of Lansing held its annual Independence Day event on Saturday. The celebration ended with a fireworks display.
“I’ve heard you can see it for multiple miles around,” Jeff Lawler, who was at the Lansing Independence Holiday event, said. “So we’ll see how good it is this year.”

Ahead of Lansing’s fireworks display, people enjoyed games, food, rides and live music.
“It’s nice that the weather changed and cooled down a little bit. The breeze picked up,” Lawler said. “So I think here in a couple of hours, a lot more people are going to be coming out.”
The Independence Day celebration is one of the city of Lansing’s biggest events of the year.
“Victory Pyrotechnics is the company we’ve hired. I think this is the fourth or fifth year we’ve used them, and they’re fantastic,” Ken Miller, Public Information Officer for the City of Lansing, said. “They’re from the Wichita area. We’re looking at about 20 to 25 minutes (of fireworks) choreographed to music. They’ve always done a great job. They never disappoint.”
The fireworks display included lasers, music and lights.
Many residents say watching the fireworks display in Lansing is a tradition they look forward to every summer.
“They’re amazing,” Heather Turner, who was at the event, said. “There’s only one that I find better than that, but that’s put on by a firework stand.”

There are plenty of celebrations scheduled in the upcoming week.
Fairway, Roland Park & Westwood will host a joint July 3 fireworks show at Bishop Miege.
On the Fourth of July, you can watch fireworks at the National WWI Museum and Memorial. Parkville, Gladstone and Olathe also have displays on Independence Day.
