Local company steps in and helps elderly man left without power

MARSHALL, Okla. (KFOR) — A Logan County man was left in the dark for days after losing his power during an overnight storm.

You may remember Bill Cardin, an 88-year-old man located in Marshall, Oklahoma.

He lost his power and was told by OG&E that he would need to move his meter and electric pole closer to his home before they would turn his power back on.

“It was hard. I never got any sleep at all,” said Cardin. “I’d have to try to figure it out and try to find the finances to do it.”

After four days without any power, Mr. Cardin’s luck seemed to turn.

Chad Miller is the owner of Blackstar Electrical Services and saw Mr.Cardin’s story.

“I was watching the news, and I just saw the run on it and I felt compelled,” said Miller.

Miller spent most of his Saturday afternoon installing a brand new electric pole and meter closer to Mr. Cardin’s home.

“I have an 87-year-old father right now that’s on hospice and he’s getting ready to pass, and I thought if the table was turned on his situation,” said Miller.

“God will bless him for what he has done for me today and I certainly do appreciate it,” said Cardin.

An OG&E worker arrived at Mr. Cardin’s house Saturday afternoon and officially brought him out of darkness.

“God gifted me with a skill and a trade, and it’s times like this when you can show your appreciation by giving back,” said Miller.

“It’s amazing how good people are when you’re in a bind,” said Cardin. “Thank you so much Channel four.”
