‘Bystander’ killed after armed robbery in Mt. Juliet, according to police


Detectives in Wilson County and Mt. Juliet are investigating a shooting overnight Friday into Saturday that killed a 27-year-old man after an armed robbery, according to police.

At approximately midnight, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at Cedar Creek Marina located at 9120 Saundersville Road.

Wilson County deputies and Mt. Juliet police officers believe the shooting followed an armed robbery and occurred as suspects were leaving the scene, according to the initial investigation.

The victim was located unresponsive in the parking lot with gunshot injuries. Police attempted treatment until the arrival of paramedics.

Mt. Juliet police described the victim who died as an “innocent bystander.” The victim was not immediately identified.

The armed robbery happened shortly after the Cedar Creek Marina restaurant had closed, police said. Suspects assaulted two staff members who were forced to open the cash safe, police said. Both workers were treated and released by medics on the scene, police said.

The restaurant itself is in Mt. Juliet’s city limits and the parking lot is in Wilson County’s jurisdiction, according to police.
