BEAVER, Utah (ABC4) — The Little Twist fire southeast of Beaver is still burning, but according to an update from officials on Saturday, the fire was still estimated to be about 2,550 acres and 25% contained.

The size of the fire remained at 2,550 acres since Friday, and the fire was estimated to be 25% contained on both Friday and Saturday, officials said. Just under 300 people were assigned to fight the blaze as of Saturday.

“Firefighters continue their work on all perimeters, holding and constructing handline to limit fire movement and supporting burnout operations to increase overall containment,” Utah Fire Info said in a press release.

Officials said firefighters would be using a “heli-torch” for “aerial ignitions” that would help remove vegetation and other fuels on the north side of the fire. The ignitions are expected to help create an additional fireline, Utah Fire Info said.

“Today’s efforts are aimed at connecting existing line and removing those fuels in order to provide the greatest opportunity for suppression success,” officials said in the release.

The weather conditions over the weekend are expected to be warm and dry, with high temperatures in the upper 80s, Utah Fire Info said. The area closure order was still in effect on Saturday for the safety of both firefighters and the public, but some recreational spots were still open.

“Little Reservoir, Tushar Lakeside and Kents Lake Campgrounds remain open to the public for camping and recreational day use activities,” officials said.

Smoke was expected to continue to be visible in the coming weeks in surrounding areas, including I-15 and I-70, as well as Hwy-89 and Hwy-20.
