Earthquake recorded 16 miles outside Coalinga


COALINGA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – An earthquake was recorded by the USGS in an area near Coalinga on Friday.

Federal officials say the earthquake registered west of Highway 198 – and east of Highway 101. The location is near Peach Tree Road and approximately 16 miles from Coalinga.

According to USGS, the 3.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded at a depth of 3.6 miles and was felt at around 2:20 p.m. It is one of several earthquakes that have impacted the Coalinga area in recent history, including one approximately one year ago in August 2023.

No damage or injuries have been reported following Friday’s 3.2 magnitude earthquake.
