Stockton parents charged with child abuse and homicide after death of 1-month-old son

A Stockton man and woman are facing felony child abuse and homicide charges after their infant son suffered multiple fatal injuries, according to police.

Officers were called to a local hospital at 2:21 a.m. Wednesday after medical staff became concerned with the circumstances of the infant’s death, according to Stockton Police Department.

The one-month-old boy was found to have multiple injuries consistent with abuse, police said.

The child’s parents, 23-year-old Robert Meyer and 23-year-old Sareya Sexton, were interviewed by detectives with the police department’s Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) Unit.

After speaking to detectives, Meyer and Sexton were arrested and booked into San Joaquin County Jail Wednesday evening. They are being held without bail.

The parents are expected to appear in San Joaquin County Superior Court for further arraignment at 8:30 a.m. on July 12 in Department 8C.
