Former Blue Valley trainer sentenced to 36 months of probation for child sex crimes

A former athletic trainer at Blue Valley Southwest High School was sentenced to 36 months of probation after he pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child.

Christopher Poskey, 40, of Overland Park, received the sentence on two counts of sexual exploitation of a child Friday in Johnson County District Court. Court records show he entered a plea agreement in April.

Prosecutors said Poskey, who was employed through the University of Kansas Health System, enticed a child younger than 18 to engage in sexually explicit conduct. Blue Valley School District personnel and a school resource officer were listed as witnesses in an April 2023 criminal complaint.

Blue Springs District Court Judge Neil Foth decided to seal sworn written statements in the case. In a motion last year, Foth said the statements should not be revealed to keep law enforcement techniques or procedures confidential from the public.

Investigators have said that Poskey admitted to them that he engaged in multiple sexually explicit conversations with minors or those he believed to be minors.

They said he also admitted to taking sexually explicit images of himself and sending them to minors while he was working.

Poskey worked for the University of Kansas Health System for about nine years. He agreed to surrender his license to practice athletic training after an order from the Kansas Board of Healing Arts in June 2023.

In the order, Poskey admitted that if a formal hearing was held, the board would have sufficient evidence to revoke his license.
