Police identify motorcyclist killed in multi-vehicle crash in Fairfax County


FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — In an update made Friday afternoon, detectives and Fairfax County said the motorcyclist killed in a crash in Chantilly on Thursday was a man from Herndon.

Officers responded to the multi-vehicle crash just before 2 p.m. on Route 28, near McLearen Road. A Kawasaki motorcycle, a Nissan Rogue and a Volkswagen Taos were all involved in the crash.

Detectives said the motorcyclist, 23-year-old David Arias Sandoval, was speeding on Route 28 when he tried to pass the Nissan. Instead, he struck the car, causing debris from the impact to hit the Volkswagen.

Sandoval died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives said they are still investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
