Suspects appear at preliminary hearings after Williamsfield shooting


Jun. 28—JEFFERSON — A Geneva man was bound over to an Ashtabula County Grand Jury on Thursday on two charges related to a June 20 shooting in Williamsfield Township, according to Eastern County Court records.

Gabriel Heniger, 19, of Geneva, waived his right to a preliminary hearing after being charged with a first degree felony, related to the shooting, and a second degree felony charge of felonious assault, also related to the shooting.

He remains in the Ashtabula County Jail under a $750,000 bond, according to court records.

Joshua Liddy 18, of Chardon, was charged with aggravated rioting in connection with the case, court records show. He also waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will be bound over to a grand jury.

Liddy’s bail was set set as a $25,000 10 percent cash-surety bond.

The incident occurred on June 20 in Williamsfield Township near the intersection of Stanhope-Kellogsville Road and Salter Road just before midnight, according to a press release from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office on June 21.

A juvenile has also been charged, according to the sheriff’s department.

The victim was shot in the stomach and treated for non-life threatening injuries, and the three suspects were later apprehended in Plymouth Township with the assistance of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The press release indicates more people may be charged related to the incident.

The hearing was held on Thursday morning in Eastern County Court.
