Quality Inn evacuated after AC unit catches fire


TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Topeka hotel was evacuated Thursday evening, after an air conditioning unit caught fire.

Several fire trucks were at the scene. Firefighters told 27 News that they arrived at 10:30p.m.

According to the Topeka Fire Department, a stairwell A.C. unit was missing on north side of the building. Crews say the air conditioner malfunctioned and caught fire.

Firefighters say the unit had fallen from the stairwell, and was on the ground outside in the bushes. However, they say they don’t know how it ended up outside.

Fire officials say there were no injuries reported, and the fire is now under control.
