Cops nab scooter-riding suspect in deadly Bronx shooting

Cops have arrested one of the scooter-riding gunmen who opened fire on a Bronx streetcorner, fatally shooting a father of six and wounding three others, police said Thursday.

Yunior Calcano Baez, 21, was nabbed Thursday and charged with murder, attempted murder and manslaughter, among other charges, for the April 16 slaying of 29-year-old Miguel Doleo, cops said.

The victim was hanging out on E. Mount Eden Ave. near Townsend Ave. in Mount Eden around 6:15 p.m. on April 16 when four men on two mopeds zipped by, police said.

The back passengers of both mopeds sprayed the group with about 10 bullets, fatally striking Doleo in the chest and leg. The three men he was with were all shot in the legs and expected to survive.

Medics took Doleo to BronxCare Health System, where he died.

“He leaves six kids behind,” his sister, Lauren Delgado, told the Daily News at the time. “He was my whole life.”

Doleo lived in Mott Haven about three miles from where he was killed, according to cops, who were investigating if there was a gang element to the shooting.

In the weeks before the slaying, the NYPD’s community response team was working in the area and “going aggressively after people on scooters,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry said at a news conference following the shooting.

After Doleo’s death, Daughtry said the unit would continue to focus “primarily on individuals riding around on illegal scooters, dirt bikes and ATVs.”

Baez’s arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was pending Thursday evening. Police are still searching for the other men involved in the shooting.
