Anderson man faces murder charge after wife found dead at Summitville cemetery

Jun. 27—SUMMITVILLE — An Anderson man has been arrested on a preliminary charge of murder in connection with the shooting death of his wife.

Jeremy J. Hinson, 47, was arrested Wednesday by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. He was detained Thursday at the Madison County jail with no bond.

About 3 p.m. Wednesday, a 911 caller reported that a vehicle with a man and woman inside was parked at the back of Forrestville Cemetery in Summitville, according to a sheriff’s department press release. The caller had knocked on the vehicle’s window but neither occupant responded.

Deputies were dispatched and found Michela D. Hinson, 47, Anderson, dead in the driver’s seat, according to the release. She had suffered five gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen, according to an affidavit of probable cause from the sheriff’s department.

Jeremy Hinson was seated in the passenger seat. After he stepped out of the passenger-side door, deputies found a semi-automatic handgun in his waistband, according to the affidavit.

Officers found shell casings on the floor of the vehicle and blood on Jeremy Hinson’s hands, police said.

Investigators requested a 72-hour extension through the prosecutor’s office for the filing of formal charges while the investigation continued.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
