Berwick heavily impacted after thunderstorm


BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The storm that came through our viewing area brought damage throughout northeastern Pennsylvania, hitting areas in Columbia County extra hard.

Driving through Berwick, you can barely go a mile without seeing the damage that was done Wednesday evening.

A store in Berwick took the brunt of the storm, collapsing from the strength of rain and winds.

All over the borough, trees had fallen and some were completely uprooted.

NWS issues severe thunderstorm watch, warning for parts of NEPA

Trees are causing problems with traffic, but they’re not the only culprit.

Traffic lights are out and there are even down wires causing delays and road closures.

Some residents are without power from the storm and were told it may not be restored until Thursday at 11:00 p.m.

Workers on scene tell 28/22 News they expect to be out for hours cleaning up the damage on the road.

Just outside of Berwick in Salem Township, 28/22 News also found a downed tree blocking a road.
