Memorial set for baby found in Maryville park

Jun. 26—Police have identified a person of interest after a newborn baby’s body was found last month at Mozingo Lake Recreation Park, and a memorial event is set for the infant on Thursday.

The baby boy’s body was found on the morning of May 25 in a remote area of the park by an employee who was doing routine maintenance. The Maryville Police Department said there is a non-local person of interest in the case.

The City of Maryville will hold a memorial service at 1 p.m. on June 27 to honor the baby. The graveside service will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery at 1649 N. Main St. in Maryville.

Once a DNA analysis from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab and autopsy results are received, the case will be forwarded to the Nodaway County Prosecutor’s Office, police said. The investigation remains active, and police urge anyone with additional information to call 660-562-3209.
