BYERS, Colo. (KDVR) — A family of eight is stranded in Colorado after a fiery crash with an Amazon semitruck last week on Interstate 70.

From fun at the Juneteenth festivities in Denver to sheer panic on a family road trip home, the family says they have no way back to Missouri and do not know where to turn.

Quinndale and Annie Allen, their children and their grandchildren sat together Monday, injured and traumatized after what happened in the early morning hours a week ago.

“Bam, the airbags came out,” Annie said. “And when the airbags came out, they knocked us out. They knocked me out. They knocked my husband out. And next thing I know, the car started filling up with smoke.”

According to Colorado State Patrol, a head-on collision happened around 2:18 am last Monday. FOX31 was told an Amazon semitruck hit a guardrail on westbound I-70, crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes.

“We come over this hill and there’s a big smile across the truck, across the road, and it was on fire. And I knew not to hit the trailer, so I had to hit the truck,” Quinndale said. “So I just held it and said here we come, Jesus.”

The Allen family’s Nissan Armada had people inside, and all were transported to the hospital. CSP said the driver of the semi was not injured.

“My uncle has a broken neck, he’s in hospital waiting on surgery,” Leeanna Mayfield said. “My daughter has a broken arm, my other daughter has wrist injuries, we all have bruises all over our bodies.”

‘Dropped off in the middle of nowhere with nothing’

Feeling lucky to be alive, Mayfield and the Allens are unsure where to turn next with all of their belongings burned in the fiery crash.

“We have lost all our IDs, we’ve lost all of our credit cards,” Mayfield said. “No one really knows who we are. It’s just like we’ve been dropped off in the middle of nowhere with nothing. We have nowhere to go because we don’t have any access to our money.”

This family told FOX31 they have full insurance coverage but cannot seem to get help through it.

“We’re not able to get a rental. Any time we called in Enterprise, they’ll tell us we won’t have one for a week out,” Mayfield said. “You know, it’s always something. They never have anything available. We just need to get back so we can get back to our normal lives.”
