KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Port KC’s Board of Commissioners approved a deal with Block Real Estate Services and Sunflower Development to move forward on two new projects in Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza.
The first project is a 279-unit apartment building called The Madison. The building will sit in the currently vacant northwest corner of the intersection at Madison Ave. and 47th Street, west of the Plaza.

Floor plans in The Madison will be one, two and three bedrooms. Port KC approved $212 million in bonds for this project.
The next project will be the Plaza Corporate Center. This project will revamp the 1970s building also located at 47th and Madison and also build another building, rebuilding the parking garage in the neighboring north lot.
The project would bring 321 units to the neighborhood and also feature one, two and three-bedroom options. Port KC approved $150 million in bonds for this project.
Construction is set to begin in 2025 for both The Madison and the Plaza Corporate Center.

The two projects will receive tax exemptions for 20 years and produce an additional $32.8 million in new tax revenues. Developers will be donating $2 million to Kansas City’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund, which could turn those funds into 162 units.
Block Real Estate Services and Sunflower Development Group have worked on projects in Kansas City such as 46 Penn Centre, 44 Washington, The Grand, Brookside Commons and The Oxbow.
