Body found believed to be missing hiker: SDPD

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A body believed to be the hiker who went missing on Black Mountain was found Monday morning following more than a day of search and rescue efforts.

Around 8 a.m. Sunday, Diem “Dina” Le Nguyen, 50, arrived at Nighthawk Trail to hike with a large group of people, San Diego Police Department Lt. Dan Meyer said. The group hiked about half way up, and Le Nguyen decided to continue on to the peak, alone, while the rest of the group returned to the base of the mountain, Meyer said.

Around 10:08 a.m., the woman made a distress call to her family, saying she was “extremely hot and needed water,” Meyer said.

Authorities said Le Nguyen was considered “missing at risk” due to the difficulty of the trail and the extreme heat in the hours after she went missing. An excessive heat advisory was in place at the time she went missing.

Around 9:15 a.m. Monday, police were notified the body of an Asian female had been found.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the woman’s identity.

Le Nguyen’s family has been notified.
