Fatal two-vehicle crash on the Coleman Bridge


YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police and the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash on the Coleman Bridge Saturday morning.

A sedan traveling southbound on Route 17 struck a disabled pickup with a trailer that was partially in the right travel lane.

The driver of the pickup was in between the trailer and the pickup at the time of the crash and was pinned between the two by the impact of the collision. The pickup driver died at the scene.

The driver of the sedan was taken to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The crash caused the bridge to close and motorist were rerouted through West Point. The bridge reopened around 1 p.m., according to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.
