Weather-related closures, outages across Utah due to severe thunderstorms

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Today’s severe thunderstorm activity across Utah has led to some flash flooding, landslides and even road collapses in various areas.

Moab Flooding

Moab Police reported flash flooding as Mill Creek overflowed its banks this evening at 400 East and 300 South. Water was reported as flowing over the bridge on 400 East near a local high school. Authorities evacuated people from local businesses on 100 South as a precaution.

Kane Creek Blvd. and 500 West were also closed due to flooding.

U.S. 191 was temporarily closed at Spanish Trail Rd. for flooding but has since reopened.

Officials are warning people to stay away from creek banks and bridges.

Road Collapse in San Juan County

A portion of SR-163 washed out this afternoon in San Juan County near Mexican Hat, Utah, according to officials from Utah Highway Patrol. While only a portion of the shoulder collapsed, it is unknown if more parts of the roadbed have been compromised.

The washout occurred at milepost 28 north of Mexican Hat.

Vernal Power Outages

Around 6,000 households were without power in Vernal after at least five power poles were knocked down due to winds. Uintah County officials recommended that residents call Central Dispatch at (435) 789-4222 if they see downed lines that do not have crews on scene.

Diamond Fork Canyon Landside

A landslide along Diamond Fork Road near the Fifth Water Hot Springs Trailhead saw mudslides today, which caused the road to be closed.
