FRENCHTOWN TWP. — A motorcyclist from Florida died after a crash Thursday evening on Telegraph Road.
The crash was reported at 6:04 p.m. at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Mall Road in Frenchtown Township, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said in a news release. The preliminary investigation showed Troy S. Wheatcraft, 59, of Port Charlotte, Florida, was operating a 2018 Harley-Davidson Deluxe motorcycle northbound on Telegraph Road in the right travel lane. As Wheatcraft entered the intersection, his motorcycle was struck by a southbound 2017 Chevrolet Trax driven by Mikalah M. Yeske, 18, of Dundee as she made an eastbound turn into the Walmart parking lot.
At impact, the Trax rotated counterclockwise, overturned and came to rest on its roof. Wheatcraft fell from his motorcycle, coming to rest within the intersection with the bike.

Wheatcraft was not wearing a helmet. The Yeskes were wearing their safety belts, and airbags in the Trax deployed at impact.
Wheatcraft was transported to ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, Goodnough said. Yeske and her front-seat passenger, Rebecca A. Yeske, 48, of Newport, were transported to Corewell Health Trenton Hospital where they were listed in serious condition.
Alcohol and speed are not factors in the crash, Goodnough said.
Members of the Frenchtown Township Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Service assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Lt. Brian Quinn and Deputies Cody Carena and Steven Warren of the sheriff’s office’s Traffic Services Division.
