Company gets help from city incentives to relocate headquarters in Highland

A local company will get a little help from the city to relocate and develop a new headquarters in Highland.

The developer is Fertil-Lawn Inc., doing business as Diversified Services. It plans to acquire and renovate the property at 904 Beech St. for their new location.

Diversified Services is a 42-year-old company already located in Highland and employs 14 people, according to city records. It is primarily focused on landscaping, including weed control and irrigation and services Illinois municipalities from Alton to Columbia to Waterloo.

Diversified Services will be investing an estimated $234,500 in the property, according to the memo from Mallord Hubbard, director of economic development. That includes the land purchase, site improvements, a $150,000 new building and other services.

The incentive package will reimburse Diversified Services up to $10,000 in city-imposed permitting fees and utility upgrades upon the project’s completion, and Hubbard recommended approval. “It’s a pretty straightforward agreement we do,” said Mayor Kevin Hemann.

The request comes just after the unanimous vote by the city council to approve a third tax increment financing district, which will fund similar incentive agreements as well as infrastructure and development costs in Highland.

The council voted unanimously to approve the agreement with Diversified Services.
