Man allegedly driving under the influence hits Mobile Police car


MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A local man is behind bars after allegedly driving under the influence and hitting a Mobile Police car, News 5 has learned.

An MPD news release said officers were called to Cottage Hill Road and Azalea Road around 11 p.m. Saturday when the officer was involved in the crash.

Officers said a driver was heading north on Azalea Road when his vehicle was hit by a driver who ran a red light on Cottage Hill.

Then, the suspect’s vehicle hit the officer’s vehicle, which was sitting still in the left turn lane on westbound Cottage Hill Road, according to the release.

All three of the drivers were taken to local hospitals for minor injuries. 21-year-old Sanjuan Deontae Thomas was arrested and charged with first-degree assault.
