Lakes rise as Wichita Falls heads into summer

North Texas will have a shot at more rain as it officially rolls into summer on Thursday.

The National Weather Service predicted slight chances of rain Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Wichita Falls has received 22.16 inches of rain so far in 2024, compared to the normal of 13.06 inches by this time of year.

Combined lake levels rose over the past week

Wichita Falls’ primary reservoirs rose over the past week. Although Lake Arrowhead lost a fraction of a point to 78.7 percent, Lake Kickapoo rose to 82 percent. That means the combined total rose to 79.5 percent of capacity.

Because the combined total has risen above 65 percent, city councilors will consider lifting stage 1 drought watch water use restrictions when they meet Tuesday.

Lake Kemp, which provides a portion of the city’s water, remained completely full.

Residents will get a small break from the heat as daytime highs stay in the mid-80s on Wednesday and Thursday. Otherwise, highs will be in the low 90s this week.
