(WFRV) – Mercury Marine, one of Wisconsin’s largest employers, has announced a reduction in workforce at its Fond du Lac headquarters, expected to affect nearly 300 employees.
A statement provided to Local 5 from Mercury Marine states that its reduction in workforce of close to 300 employees will take place from June 14 through July.
It was also noted that some ‘adjustments to overall operations’ will also occur in Wisconsin, St. Cloud, Florida, and Juarez, Mexico.

Officials stated that the layoffs are due to “softening of consumer demand” in some markets. Mercury Marine’s statement provided to Local 5 states:
These actions were taken due to softening of consumer demand in some of our markets mainly as a result of continued high interest rates and near-term reductions in boat production by Mercury’s boat builder partners. Mercury Marine’s industry-leading products continue to gain market share around the world but at this time this is not sufficient to fully offset the overall market headwinds.
