Man arrested in connection with three stabbings throughout Charlotte

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has arrested a man in connection with three stabbing incidents that occurred throughout Charlotte.

On June 12, officers received a call about a woman who had been attacked with a knife in southeast Charlotte.

The woman said she was attacked while leaving work. It happened near Randolph Road and Sam Drenan Road.

Police identified the suspect in the attack as 19-year-old Josiah Maitland. According to the CMPD, Maitland didn’t know the victim.

Maitland ran away after the attack, and police said he was still armed with a knife.

On June 13, shortly after 11:00 a.m., officers received another call regarding a stabbing on Old Mt. Holly Road.

The male victim told police that he was walking a moped to a safe location to make repairs when he was approached and stabbed multiple times by an unknown male suspect.

That suspect then fled on foot before officers could arrive.

Eventually, officers connected both stabbings to the same suspect, 19-year-old Josiah Maitland.

CMPD then attempted to locate Maitland at his last known address, but he was not home.

While the search for Maitland was active, police received another call regarding a stabbing on a CATS bus on Freedom Drive, near Bradford Drive.

Police verified that the suspect in that stabbing was also Maitland, and he was arrested without incident.

Channel 9′s Glenn Counts spoke with the woman who was attacked on Randolph Road.

She said she was walking to her car when she noticed a young man sitting at a bus stop.

“I sensed someone was behind me, and then all of a sudden I felt extreme pressure, like pounding on my back and my shoulder. I turned around with my hand to try and deflect,” the woman said.

She said she didn’t realize at first that she was being stabbed because everything was happening so fast.

“I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know there was a knife until after, but there was immediately a lot of blood because of the severed artery,” the woman explained. “I screamed at the top of my lungs, and that must have spooked him, and he ran off.”

The woman said she was just thankful that the police had made an arrest in this case.

“I just hope he’s not released; he needs help, and he needs to serve until he’s well; he should not be let out in the community,” the woman elaborated.

Maitland has been charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of attempted murder, and armed robbery.
