Blind Woman and Service Dog Denied Entry Into Mississippi Restaurant by Rudest Owner

Another day, another place of business who has absolutely no idea about the Americans with Disabilities Act, this time out of Pine Belt Region of Mississippi. Carlyn White, who is legally blind, and her service Golden Retriever Kuzco, were told they couldn’t enter a local seafood restaurant because White relies on her dog to navigate the world.

To add insult to injury, this restaurant owner sounds like not only do they have any idea about the ADA laws, but they are also amazingly rude.

WDAM reports,She said this caused an issue last week when her family was told they couldn’t enter a restaurant with Kuzco.

“We start trying to explain that he’s a service dog,” said White. “You can’t deny him, it’s illegal. She is immediately rude and says, ‘No dogs, it doesn’t matter.’”

But wait, this story only get worse, with the article continuing to say, “After her first phone call, White said she called and talked to the owner.

“He goes, ‘Come get you a take-out plate and take your a– to the yard and eat with your dog,’” said White.”

There are just no words for this. I can’t believe this keeps happening to people with service dogs.

Now, for the gazillionth time, the ADA states that “Generally, service animals are allowed to be with their person, even in places that don’t allow pets.” This includes places like restaurants, shops, hospitals, schools and hotels.

White has filed a complaint with the Department of Justice against the restaurant and said she understands that some folks might be uncomfortable around dogs. WDAM goes on to say, “The ADA complaint carries a fine of up to $500, but White just wants folks to take a second and think.”

I can’t even imagine how frustrating this must be for people who rely on service dogs. It’s just amazingly shameful that a place of business can act this way.

White shared her story to Facebook with:

Her post reads in part, “A service dog is trained to mitigate a disability. And there is NEVER a reason to be rude to ANYONE. Can’t believe the owner of a business doesn’t know the law.”

Here’s hoping the owner of this restaurant learns their lesson and also some manners.
