Yelloh Delivery Service to close London office next month

Jun. 12—The frozen food delivery service Yelloh, formerly known as Schwan’s Home Delivery, will be closing its London hub on July 27 of this year, according to published reports.

London’s location is not alone in the closing, as Yelloh will additionally be closing four of its other locations within Kentucky — including stations in Prestonsburg, Bowling Green, Burlington, and Winchester.

According to a report published by WYMT, which cited the Kentucky Career Center, 51 employees within the commonwealth will lose their job due to the closure.

Yelloh began under the name of Schwan’s on March 18, 1952. Schwan’s deliveries were originally by Marvin Schwan, 23 at the time, who packed his van with 14 gallons of his family’s signature ice cream and delivered it to rural families in the state of Minnesota.

The Schwan family sold a 70% share of its business to the Korean firm CJ CheilJedang in 2018 for $1.8 billion. The family chose to still keep the Schwan’s Home Delivery service, however, and rebranded it as Yelloh just last year.

This is not the first time Yelloh has decided to cut jobs on a national level. Last December, citing rising business costs in a post-pandemic world, the company closed down 90 of its delivery centers — resulting in the loss of 750 jobs. Yelloh decided to continue serving 18 states at that time.

In an interview with WYMT, London Mayor Randall Weddle stated, “As a community, we hate it because we know that we had some elderly people in our community that use that service to get items from. So, we have a lot of people that do depend on them showing up on that routine delivery that don’t have the ability or don’t have the knowledge on how to do that online order.”

The online order that Mayor Weddle is referring to is the service that is still provided on Yelloh’s website, yelloh.com.

In announcing last fall’s closures, Yelloh shared in a public statement that customers across the U.S. may still receive their favorite items by using the Yelloh app, ordering online, or by calling the company to receive their products via UPS. Yelloh’s customer service number is (888) 724-92671.
