Stark Parks sets up music, hiking events for June


Don’t miss these upcoming Stark Parks activities in eastern Stark County. Event information is in each item, and organizers suggest checking on any updates at starkparks.com.

Summer Serenades at Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center

Canton Symphony Orchestra and Stark Parks have teamed up for the 10th year of the Summer Serenades in the Park concerts. The small ensemble will play 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 27 at Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE in Minerva.

Musicians will play from the outdoor amphitheater. Bring chairs, blankets and a picnic dinner. In the event of inclement weather, this concert will be canceled.

After the music, Stark Parks staff will lead those interested on a hike along the trails from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The evening’s route will be on turf trails with changing elevations, so come dressed for the weather and terrain. Insect repellant is recommended. Registration is required.

Music activities at Quail Hollow

Attendees can join with the band for this Music Night, or sit back and enjoy traditional, bluegrass and Celtic tunes at 6 p.m. June 20 at Quail Hollow, 13480 Congress Lake Ave. in Hartville. Admission is $2 for the show inside the Manor House. No registration is required.

Manor House Tours at Quail Hollow

Enjoy a guided tour of the 100-year-old, 1920s-era H.B. Stewart Manor House in Quail Hollow park in Hartville. Tours begin 2 p.m. and will last about one hour. The building does not have an elevator, so be prepared to climb stairs. Walk-ins only; no registration required. Fee is $5 cash at the door for ages 5 and older, with a maximum of $20 per family.

Summer Solstice Hike-a-Thon on June 20

The hike-a-thon is back June 20. Ring in summer by hiking on the longest day of the year at several Stark Parks locations. Participants can hike all day and follow the staff from site to site, or pick which hike you would like to attend.

Locations and times:

1) 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. – Quail Hollow, Manor House, 13480 Congress Lake Ave. in Hartville, 2.5 to 3 miles.

2) 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – Nickel Plate Trail, Metzger Park, 1420 S. Nickelplate St. in Louisville, 3 miles.

3) 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Hoover Trail, Washington Square, 1325 E. Maple St. in North Canton, 3 miles.

4) 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. – West Branch Trail, Gatehouse, 1305 Stadium Park Drive NW. in Canton, 3 miles.

5) 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Sippo Lake Park, Marina Parking, 5300 Tyner St. NW in Perry Township, 3.5 to 4 miles.

6) 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Petros Lake Park, Perry Drive Long Parking Lot, 3519 Perry Drive SW in Perry Township, 2.5 to 3 miles.

7) 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Towpath, Craig Pittman Trailhead, 8218 Hudson Drive SW. in Navarre, 1.5 to 2.5 miles.
