GAA president Jarlath Burns says he understands that a €100 “is a lot” for a stand ticket at next month’s All-Ireland senior finals.

Croke Park confirmed prices for the finals would increase from €90 for entry to one of the three stands and €55 for the Hill 16 terrace.

Tickets for All-Ireland quarter-finals and semi-finals will also increase, by €5.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio 1’s “Morning Ireland” show on Monday morning, Mr Burns said “We do understand that €100 is a lot for an All-Ireland ticket.

“It was a very big move for us to go to three figure but remember it’s the first time since 2018, it’s only the second time since 2011 (that the GAA has increased its final ticket prices). We all know where inflation has gone.

“But I think our members understand that 83% of everything we earn is ploughed right back into the game. We have 350 coaches, we’re spending €7 million on those at the moment and that’s going to go up to €12m. We’re actually giving them better terms.

“Over the next year, we’re going to spend €5m on our county grounds. Last year, we gave €3m to our clubs in grants. That’s going up to €4.5m next year and the year after up to €5m.

“Remember, of course, if you are bringing a child to the National League matches, it’s free into that. It’s only €5 for a juvenile ticket into all of the games in all of the championship games so far.”
