How many transactions can I do at one time?

Q: How many transactions can I do at the RI Division of Motor Vehicles at one time? I have four to do and was wondering if I could do them at the same time.

— Ray A.

A: There isn’t a limit for personal transactions. Sometimes, when people move in from out of state, they may have multiple credential and registration transactions that need to be completed.

For businesses, if there are more than 10 transactions, you may be asked to drop off the paperwork, and the DMV will call you back when all the transactions have been completed. Usually it will be at the end of the same day or the following day.

If you’re a “dealership/runner,” you can drop off up to 20 transactions daily, between 10 a.m. and noon. There is a section on the DMV website (dmv.ri.gov) that provides instructions on these type of transactions.

There are “insurance runners” who are allowed to do up to three transactions at a time. If they have more transactions, they are required to get another ticket.
