Northern Michigan store celebrates 105 years in business

A northern Michigan family-owned clothing store is celebrating 105 years in business.

Ed Rehmanns, a Chesaning business, opened in 1919 and will mark its 105th anniversary Saturday. The store began its anniversary observance in May by partnering with Carhartt to unveil a mural inspired by a Chesaning student.

“Our grandparents founded this store in 1919,” said co-owner Ric Rehmann. “We feel so humbled that our community and our customers have supported us and believed in their dream to make us a part of pure Michigan history.”

Founded by Ed and Eva Rehmann, the store sells fire-resistant and regular clothing designed for workers, first responder uniforms and accessories. The business also offers tailoring, tuxedo rentals, dry cleaning with Ruthy’s Cleaners of Owosso, and partners with several businesses as a retailer.

The Saturday celebration will feature giveaways from partner businesses like Carhartt, Red Wings Boots, and more; live music; food trucks; and face painting.

“We really just want to say thank you in a big way,” said co-owner Nancy Rehmann. “We’re proud that we have been able to span generations of Michiganders. We want to remind our customers that when you shop small, you keep your dollars in our communities. When you shop small, you create jobs for our neighbors. And when you shop small, you help all of us to dream big.”
