Man killed, woman critically injured in wrong-way crash on Ronald Reagan Highway

A man was killed and a woman was critically injured in a wrong-way crash on Ronald Reagan Highway early Sunday morning.

Amberley Village police and fire departments responded to the westbound portion of the highway near Ridge Road for the report of a head-on crash at approximately 1:06 a.m., the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The sheriff’s office’s traffic safety unit was also called to investigate the crash.

Investigation revealed that a woman was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on Ronald Reagan Highway in the left lane of travel.

A man, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry eastbound in the highway’s westbound lanes, then collided head-on with the woman’s Malibu, resulting in both drivers becoming entrapped in their vehicles.

Due to the severity of the crash, fire departments from the cities of Reading, Blue Ash and Cincinnati were requested to assist in mechanically extricating both drivers.

The woman was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with critical injuries while the man, whose identity hasn’t been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, the release said, and alcohol is believed to have contributed to the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Traffic Unit at 513-825-1500.
