The Louisville Regional Airport Authority is selling 52 acres in southern Jefferson County originally intended to house residents displaced by airport growth.

The property, located off Cedar Creek Road south of Interstate 265 on Justice Way, is listed for sale at $3.1 million.

Heritage Creek was created as part of a relocation program that started in the 1990s. Using funding from federal, state, and local sources, the airport bought nearly 290 acres to develop hundreds of homes, the Courier Journal previously reported.

As the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport grew, neighbors who met noise level thresholds were able to move into a new construction subdivision further south.

Hundreds of residents from the Minor Lane Heights neighborhood, among others affected by airport expansion and elevated noise levels, made Heritage Creek their home in the early 2000s. The relocation effort nabbed national headlines and drew praise from the Federal Aviation Administration as an innovative way to mitigate the harms of airport growth.

SVN Menish Commercial Real Estate is listing the property, which is zoned R-4 single-family residential.

“This investment opportunity is primed for those seeking to capitalize on the thriving residential market in the area,” the listing reads.

This “phase three” property, the final phase of the relocation program, is still undeveloped.

An airport authority spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
