What is Larry Connor’s net worth? How Titanic-exploring Ohio native made his fortune

Larry Connor plans to go where few have gone before – to the Atlantic Ocean depths to get a look at the wreckage of the Titanic.

In the wake of the OceanGate tragedy, it’s the kind of journey that requires bravery and a lot of money.

Connor’s net worth should be able to foot the bill comfortably. Here’s what we know.

Larry Connor’s net worth hits 10 figures thanks to the Connor Group

Connor’s net worth sits at $2 billion, according to Forbes.

The real estate tycoon is the head of Connor Group, a Dayton-based company that owns and invests in luxury properties in several cities, including Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, according to the company website.

Larry Connor was part of the first-ever civilian mission to the International Space Station in 2022

Forbes reports the Connor Group’s real estate portfolio is worth $5 billion. He co-founded the company with two partners in 1991 but bought them out in 2003.

Why Larry Connor wants to take a Triton Submarines vessel to the Titanic wreck

Five people died in 2023 when the OceanGate Titan submersible lost contact with its surface ship and later imploded.

Yet that won’t deter Connor from attempting to dive to the depths of the North Atlantic.

“I want to show people worldwide that while the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be wonderful and enjoyable and really kind of life-changing if you go about it the right way,” Connor told The Wall Street Journal.

Connor plans to descend in a $20 million Triton 4000/2 explorer. The company’s website describes it as “the world’s deepest diving acrylic sub.” Connor will dive alongside Triton co-founder Patrick Lahey in the two-person submersible, according to The Wall Street Journal. The date of the dive is unclear.

Connor’s dive to the Titanic won’t be his first adventure

Attempting to descend roughly 12,500 feet to view the Titanic won’t be Connor’s most extreme ocean exploration.

In 2021, Connor and Lahey dove more than 35,000 feet to the depths of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean, where they explored the Challenger Deep and Sirena Deep.

Less than a year later, in early 2022, Connor was part of the first-ever civilian mission to the International Space Station. He was one of four people who joined Axiom Space’s Axiom Mission 1.

Where did Larry Connor grow up and go to college?

Connor grew up in Dayton, graduating from Alter High School in 1968 with relatively poor grades, according to his profile on the Connor Group website.

Yet, he matriculated to Ohio University and graduated summa cum laude in 1972 with degrees in history and English.

Connor had jobs as a car salesman, a travel advisor and bar owner and manager (at Newcom’s Tavern in Dayton) before starting the Orlando Computer Corp. in the 1980s, per his profile page.
